In 2003 Portland Shotokan Karate-Do Australia was established.  We are based in Portland Victoria which is a coastal town approximately 360 kms south west of Melbourne.  We are a husband and wife team of Stephen and Shelley Hol who operate this reputable club.     With another dojo operating in Warrnambool, we are now known as World Shotokan Karate-Do Federation (WSKF) Victoria (Australia).

WSKF Victoria (Australia) is a member of the World Shotokan Karate-Do Federation (WSKF) based in Japan.

We have been training Shotokan karate in the South West Region of Victoria for more than 40 years, and will continue to offer traditional Japanese karate to the region.

About WSKF Victoria.

We are a non-profit organisation whose primary aim is the development of a dynamic, traditional style of Japanese Shotokan karate. Karate is a wonderful way to achieve more than you ever thought you could… both physically and mentally… for all ages.

WSKF karate teaches traditional and contemporary Shotokan style karate. Shotokan karate is a non aggressive self defence martial art.  Our instructors are certified by WSKF HQ in Japan. The purpose of WSKF is to develop and promote WSKF Shotokan karate in Victoria Australia.  The standards taught are of the highest level in keeping with the technical requirements set by WSKF Chief Instructor Hitoshi Kasuya Sensei.

Our goal is to maintain these standards, to grow and to help all our students achieve their personal goals and aspirations.

Karate helps develop strength, co-ordination and agility.  It can be practised at any time, in any place, for any length of time by people of all ages.  It requires no special equipment.  Karate fosters the  development of spiritual qualities: courage, courtesy, integrity, humility and self control.

We must say, however, that our karate is not something that can be mastered overnight.   It’s not a fad… we teach true mainstream Japanese karate that follows all the traditional ethics and philosophies of our Japanese karate-do forefathers.  So if you want a black belt in 12 months (as is so often promised nowadays), or want to become a vicious fighter, please look elsewhere.  But if you want to learn a genuine, self-defence martial art, give us a call or email.
